1987 Cadillac Allante

Description
I am so very excited to offer this Allante in a NO RESERVE auction. If you are looking for an Allante, let THIS beautiful car end your search! And if you clicked on this auction, this car needs no introduction in how it came to be, but just to get us primed, let’s take a walk down memory lane!
When first unveiled in 1986 as a 1987 model, the Cadillac Allante was a huge breath of fresh air for the American car market. It struck as one of the first cars to try to bring the doldrums of the US car market to a more upscale tier. The car in many ways was always meant to be a design exercise and a marketing tool. Cadillac spent an absorbent amount of money on the Allante project and every car sold was sold at a loss to GM. Included in those huge costs was the costs of the body fitment. The chassis was built by GM in Detroit, and upon completion was shipped to Pininfarina in Italy on specially outfitted Boeing 747s where the body was then fit. Pininfarina had designed the the coachwork for the Allante and had used loads of European styling cues, leather work and materials in their end of the build. After completion in Italy, the car was shipped BACK to the US to be sold. In 1987 the Allante carried a price tag of $54,000 – that is approximately $113,000 in 2014 money! And Cadillac was STILL losing money on the car! With only ~21,000 Allante ever made between 1987-1993, the car remained a rare treat for its owners and those who got to even see them. For comparison, it’s prime competitors the Mercedes SL and the Jaguar XJS produced over 200k cars and just about 100k car respectively for the same time period, making the Allante a rare bird indeed.
In 1987 the Allante was offered with essentially no options other than a cell phone and only different color choices were available to the customer to decide, but came LOADED standard. There are huge amount of things that make the Allante truly a unique collectors item, so let me dive into this car specifically and I can cover some more interesting Allante facts through.
Background:
Let me begin with a little background of this Trans Am. In February 1987 this beautiful Allante finally got it’s assembly build sticker. It is one of the earliest Allante EVER MADE. VIN #106 is the first production car to be sold to the public. This is VIN #549 making it car #443 to roll off the assembly line!
But to make this car particularly rare is 1 of only 132 cars to be painted in Maroon Metallic! Which in my humble opinion is one of the most beautiful colors this car ever came in! It is a deep maroon with elements of gold and silver flake and in some lights give it almost a deep rosey hue, and it other lights almost a ox blood deep red. I have taken some pics juxtaposed to different lights and backgrounds below so that you can see just how the paint looks in different lights. It really is quite a stunning color! For you Allante nuts, Maroon Metallic was offered for one year only – 1987. From 1988-1992 GM offered a color called Burgundy Metallic which for all purposes was the same color with a different name. BUT, it still was a VERY rare color. Only 363 Allante were painted Burgundy Metallic from 1988-1992. Of the 13,397 Allante made in 88-92, that would make that color appear on ~ 3% of total cars. In 1987, where it appeared on just 132 cars out of the 3,363 produced, we see a similar statistic. This is a very rare color indeed!
This car was originally delivered in April of 1987 and has been driven and cared for as a collectors piece by its owners. This Allante only has 60,000 original miles and CLEAN AND CLEAR CARFAX. No accidents or issues!
The Condition and Service:
This car has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY, PROFESSIONALLY and ACTIVELY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for Allante service!
Let’s start on the engine and drivetrain:
This engine and car have VERY LOW MILES (approximately 2,000 per year), only 60,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire car shows the same care. The engine is a 4.1L V8 known as the HT-4100. It is a stout small block V8 which was used throughout the GM line up. In the Allante it offered a different cam profile, roller lifters and multi-port fuel injection and made 170hp and 235ft/lb of torque. The engine offers loads of torque off the line and feels very strong as you settle into the gas
-LOWER ENGINE
The car runs COOL as can be and has never overheated. No knocks, no bangs, no issues! BRAND NEW oil change with Bosch filter! Ready to go another 3,000 miles!
-UPPER ENGINE
No ticks, no chatter, no leaking valve stem seals – solid upper end!
-IGNITION
This ignition system was given a thorough maintenance to assure years of carefree service! BRAND NEW wires and BRAND NEW AC Delco spark plugs! BRAND NEW distributor cap and rotor! BRAND NEW Ignition Module! BRAND NEW coil! Car has a great strong spark!
-FUEL SYSTEM
BRAND NEW fuel filter! Fresh injector cleaning!
-HOSES
Coolant hoses are in great shape! Fresh vacuum hose replacements on the air pump diverter valve! Started to see a some light dry rot on one that has to make a tight turn so replaced them all!
-AIR PUMP
The air pump works exactly as it should, speaking of it! Diverter valve switches between cat, manifold and atmosphere correctly.
-ENGINE CODES
NO ENGINE CODES! No BCM, ECM or Lighting Codes appear in the Diagnostics System.
-TRANSMISSION
The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great! Shifts are crisp and wonderful.
-AIR FILTER
BRAND NEW air filter!
-BATTERY
The car has a BRAND NEW battery. It cranks up right away and has loads of carefree service ahead of it.
-ENGINE BAY
Check out the overall cleanliness of the engine bay! This is not a steam clean special. This is a labor of love. A consistent cleaning to keep things looking great.
Lets move to the suspension and brakes:
-BRAKES
BRAND NEW brake pads in the front and rear – loads of pad life! No ABS issues! Pump builds pressure within a few seconds of start up and was recently bled! Allantes need to have the brake system bled annually and can be sensitive to the hydroscopic nature of brake fluid. Fear not with this fresh bleed and 100% functional ABS system! Car also has a GM manufactured master cylinder!
-SPRINGS/SHOCKS
The coil springs and transverse spring feel great! Shocks dampen very softly like a Cadillac should but exhibit control of the body in a sporty manner. They control the springs nicely and feel wonderful!
-STEERING
The steering is tight and has no excessive play. Both telescopic and tilt wheel work great!
Let’s continue to the exterior:
-PAINT
The paint is VERY nice! It is a 9 out of 10 easily, maybe even a 9+. There are only minor signs of wear on the paint and they are very hard to see in pics and in person. And some flaws such as a minor scratch on the trunk filler panel. The paint was recently compounded, polished, waxed and buffed professionally. It is SO smooth if you were ever to do a cool hood slide like an 80’s TV detective you would slide to the next county! There is NO RUST. Take that east coast! Even against more modern cars the paint will compete head to head – it really is VERY nice. The key too is that it has been well cared for! Pics don’t do the paint the justice or its shine Take a good look in the pics, look at the smoothness and reflection of the palm trees! Take note too of the different backgrounds and lighting to see the paint hue subtleties I mentioned earlier as well! This is a wonderful color and is in stunning shape!
Take note in the pics too: all four original VIN stickers on the fenders and quarter panels!
-HARDTOP
The hardtop is near mint shape. The paint is near flawless, the headliner is perfect and the window is crystal clear! Car also has the locking hardtop side covers!
-SOFT TOP
On person photographing the car makes it hard to remove the hardtop, so my apologies for not having a picture of it. I will try to get some pics of the top posted soon as well. The black cloth soft top, like the hardtop, is near flawless. No cuts or issues on the top! The cloth is in very nice shape and the glass rear window is in great shape! The rear pull down motor works great!
-BUMPERS
No scrapes or issues!
-WHEELS
The wheels are in very nice shape with no major flaws or curbing. The passenger side rear wheel has some scratches on the edge of the wheel face, but do not detract from the car.
-GLASS
Not to let a pebble defeat this car, the windshield and glass are in great shape!
-UNDERCARRIAGE
Nice undercarriage! No rust, caked on oil or dirt either!
-LIGHTS
All the lights work! Headlights, fogs, turn signals, brakes, reverse – all work! The Allante was built with a redundant lighting system so if a bulb ever fails there is a back up! Both backups and regulars work!
Onto the cabin:
-SEATS
Ready for this one Allante fans….power seats work in all directions! The seat switches were recently removed and cleaned and work great! The Austrian designed Recaro leather seats are incredibly supportive, VERY soft, smooth and without flaw! No tears, no cracks, no folds, NO ISSUES! They are truly a joy to sit in and incredibly comfortable!
-DOOR PANELS
All of the panels are free of dents or defects. They are clean, smooth and in beautiful shape.
-CARPET
The carpet is very nice!! Just shampooed and cleaned, it looks and smells clean! There was a minor repair to the carpet right under/beside the battery compartment. It is almost unnoticeable, but worth mentioning. There is no corrosion from the battery or in the compartment though. There is also a very small part of the carpet behind the passenger seat that some of the threads have come up. It is minor and not very noticeable, but again worth mentioning. Comes with a set of floor mats that are in nice shape as well! The trunk carpet is in VERY nice shape with only one or two minor flaws!
-DIGITAL DASH
Allante fans, fear not! The digital dash works perfectly! No bulbs out, panel dimmer work perfectly, tach, speedo, odometer, gas, oil, temp – all work!!!
-DASH
The dash itself is near flawless! No splits, cracks or hardness of the foam. The car also comes with a perfect shape dash cover!
-POWER LOCKS
All doors lock and unlock with the lock button!
-POWER WINDOWS
Power windows both work!
-AC/HEAT/HVAC Panel
AC is cold and Heat is earth core hot! HVAC panel and its features work as they should!
-POWER MIRRORS
Power mirrors work perfectly in all directions!
-DIAGNOSTIC CENTER
The diagnostic center works great! NO BCM, ECM or Lighting codes!!! Once and while on start up it will say low oil level, even though oil level and pressure are perfect. Car burns no oil either, just the sensor that tells the system if it is a quart low misbehaving once and while.
-STEERING WHEEL
The leather is very nice with no split seams or wear through!
-WOOD GRAIN
Wood grain on the dash and doors is in great shape!
-REMOTE FUEL AND TRUNK
Both remote fuel and trunk releases work great!
-KEYS
This Allante has BOTH the black keys AND both sets of the factory gold keys!!!!
-RADIO
In one of the very few flaws the car has, the radio can be spotty. It turns on, but sound does not always work. It is a very common fault amongst Allante.
-OEM JACK, SPARE, WHEEL LOCKS
The trunk still has the factory spare, spare tire instructions, tire iron, jack and a set of unused original wheel lock nuts!
The Experience
Driving this Allante is amazing. You sit coddled in comfortable soft bolstered leather, with excellent vision and it feels great. It is and was truly the best rival to the Mercedes SL! It pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce. It is whisper quiet with the top down too! It has all the power it had from the factory an then some, and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this Allate is a great pre-owned and beautiful collector car. It is low miles, up to date on service and in fantastic shape overall. Not to mention the fact it is a VERY rare color and still has both its tops!
There are other Allante out there. Don’t spend big money on a car from a “turn-em-and-burn-em” style dealer when all they do to promote the car is say a few things they think people like to hear. As you may tell from my ad, I know the care that these cars need and the details that make them tier 1, from a tier 2 or worse and I hope to have addressed them to those of you that know as well. If an ad says “Low miles and well cared for” Ask questions! If you don’t get thorough, well addressed answers, start planning more money and more aspirin. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION! This car is ready to go live a beautiful, reliable, enjoyed life in your hands. Don’t buy an unserviced Allante for a little less than spend multiple times as much to get it to this level of operation!
Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.
My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn’t please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Allante (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new truck. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 60,000 mile car that however is well above average for its year. This is low miles for Allante of this year, but please just remember that no 60,000 mile car is perfect. It is though a very clean, nice car! Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have an Ebay 3rd party mechanic service check out the truck I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after if you intend to use that service. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Buying over the internet can be scary sometimes! I get it, because I am an enthusiast too!! For that very reason, I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
Clean and clear Arizona title!
Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
Allante: the NEW Spirit of Cadillac!
