I’m THRILLED to offer for a sale this BEAUTIFUL color combination 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe. It has been VERY well cared for, drives like a DREAM and looks absolutely stunning in Black over Champagne Leather!  Let’s dive right in!

Background:

Let me begin with a little background.   This 911 was originally sold in, and has spent its entire life in sunny, dry Southern California.  Ordered in beautiful and classic Black with a MSRP of $45,895 it was also optioned with a number of wonderful extras:

Special Champagne Interior: $1,703

Steering Wheel w/Raised Hub: $65

Reno Radio: $153

Limited Slip Differential: $823

Factory Short Gear Shift: $65

16″ Forged Alloy Wheels: $748

Fully Power Left Seat: $470

Automatic Speed Control: $439

Sport Shock Absorbers: $297

HiFi Sound Package: $332

Amplifier System: $273

Alarm System: $266

Electric Sunroof: $1,307

Black Velour Luggage Compartment: $168

With fees, this Porsche came out to $55,702!  That was only about $10k different in price from a new Porsche 911/930 Turbo, or better put, $112k in 2015 dollars.  This was a top of the line Carrera!

This 911 has only had two owners.  The second owner purchased the car in 1995 with 80k miles.  It came to a very well respected independent Porsche shop here in Los Angeles for its pre-purchase inspection and has been serviced and cared for almost exclusively for the next 20 years there.  It was serviced religiously over that time as well, with a stack of thin carbon receipts over an inch and half high.  Truly loved and enjoyed, this is the car to show that with the right care and feeding mileage makes little difference in these cars. It starts up effortlessly cold or warm, drives wonderfully without any issues, feels tight (no clunks or squeaks) and shifts beautifully. Made to be the ultimate sports car, the 911 delivers comfortable, effortless highway miles and is an absolute dream for around-town cruising.  It’s so simple to slip yourself into the buttery leather drivers seat and be transported to the Autobahn as you watch the Black Forest whiz by you!

As mentioned, this car was first sold in California and has spent its entire life in this sunny, dry state!  A car and Porsche-lovers dream!  No rust, no rot, no weather grime, NO ISSUES!  And while being driven very little,  it was kept in dry storage, started often and serviced with dedication and care.  It keeps getting better!

Let’s continue!

The Condition and Service:

Let’s start on the engine and drivetrain:

-ENGINE

This engine has low miles for the year (~ 6,600 a year), with only 179,900 miles appearing on the odometer though the car shows as one with half of that.  It was driven and enjoyed as it should be, but being owned by someone who wanted to enjoy it for decades, it was showed more than generous preemptive care.  The engine is VERY healthy and has loads of smooth power!   It starts right up, cold or warm, goes through its warm up cycle flawlessly and settles into idle perfectly.  With even a crack of the throttle it, the Carrera feels torquey and powerful, and effortlessly pulls away!  More then a leisurely drive?  Keep your foot in it until over 4k rpm and the real design of the engine comes to life!  The OEM cams really come on, the engine note changes and the car pulls like crazy!  The engine is lively and has no dead spots.  This 911 engine feels like its brand new!  There is very minor moisture at the engine case seal and valve covers – not a leak, just the standard 911 case moisture. The heat exchangers are in very nice, not beat up or rotted out!   The bottom of the engine case has not been ground down from low driveways!  Take a look at the pics too – super clean engine bay.  And this wasn’t a steam clean WD40 special!  This is UNTOUCHED during detailing.  It has been cared for and maintained over time that not a rag or a cleaner was used before the pictures.  This is the engine bay as it has been cared for over time.

NEW: 30k service, Crank Seal, Oil Change, Main Fuel Hoses, Air Filter, Both Drive Belts, Bosch Battery, Alternator, Cooling Fan Pulley, DME Relay, Rotor and Cap, Idle Valve, Adjusted Idle

-TRANSAXLE

The G50 transaxle is in FANTASTIC shape.  None of the wild ambiguity you find in the earlier 915 trans, just wonderful, easy gear placement with confident shifts.  If you are new to Porsches, the G50 transmission blew its predecessor from 1986 and prior cars AWAY.  And this G50 is perfect.  NO grinds, NO syncro issues.  Slips into 1st from a roll, just an easy car to drive. Brand new clutch with only 4,000 miles on it!

NEW:  Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Shift Coupler, Throw Out Bearing, Clutch Hose, Mainshaft Seal, Slave Cylinder, Pilot Bearing, Clutch Master Cylinder, Clutch Release Bearing Guide, Clutch Lever Bearing, Clutch Lever Shaft, Clutch Arm, Resurfaced Flywheel, Clutch Pin, R&R Pedal Assembly, Axle Boots

-SUSPENSION and STEERING

No bangs, no rough ride, no clunks!  The shocks dampen wonderfully!  The car is tight in corners, and comfortable on the straights!  Rubber bushings are in great shape, no degradation or rubber coming apart.  Steering is tight, aligned nicely, doesn’t pull and weights up nicely at speed.  No dead spots or play.  Tie rod ends are in great shape, with no cracking of the rubber or play.

NEW: Turbo Tie Rods Ends, Steering Rack Boots, Front wheel bearings, sway bar drop link.  Newer rear wheel bearings.

-BRAKES

Confident pedal, great pressure with a firm positive stop.  Pads have 75% life in both front and rear.

Let’s continue to the exterior:

-PAINT and BODY

The paint is quite nice!  It is a 7+/8- out of 10.  Shiny, beautiful Black paint was recently polished, finished and waxed by a highly acclaimed detailer here in LA.  It looks FANTASTIC.  CLEAN and CLEAR CarFax.  NO ACCIDENTS. NO RUST. Clean floors, clean door jambs, clean sunroof channels, clean drains, even the the low and susceptible condenser grill is free of dents!   The paint is entirely original, no repaints or panels resprayed.  It has a deep luster to it and shines beautifully!  The flaws are so minor they are essentially unnoticeable unless someone points them out or you are face to face with the paint.  There are couple very small dings on the body and few very small scratches etc.  Nothing major at at all nor to take away from the overall beauty of the paint.  There are a reasonable amount of stone chips on the front bumper that would expected from an original paint car.  There is also some light checking on the paint on the trunk.  I tried to capture this in the pics, though it is somewhat hard and you must be up close to notice.  It is on most of the trunk, but requires a close face to face to really see.  Any of the flaws are WELL below any expectation level for a Porsche of this year or miles.  Even against more modern cars the paint will compete head to head – it is really quite nice.  This is a dry SoCal car!  That means no rust lurking under the surface ready to pop up and ruin your paint!  If there was a place to buy ANY Porsche, it is dry, warm SoCal.  No rain and no road salt!  Check out the underside pics too, no dents in the floors, no rust, a P-car lovers dream.   There are some scratches on the AC condenser whammy bar (the little bar just under the bumper that helps protect the condenser) and some light oxidation where they appear – the only I can find on the whole car.  It is common for this bar to scrape a driveway or speed bump, but simply unbolts if the new owner would like to powdercoat it.  (Though, I would not not expect it to last long!).

-TIRES

The Michelin tires have lots of tread life left!  65%+ even on a bad day!   No leaks, flat spots or odd tread issues.   Smooth as silk on the highway!

-WHEELS

The Fuchs wheels look stunning on the Carrera in platinum and compliment the black paint wonderfully.  There are some minor flaws, water spots etc, but because of the overall shine and shape, not very noticeable.

-BUMPERS, VALANCES and PLASTICS

The plastics on the bumpers are in nice shape and free of the typical sun fade and hardening on the plastic bits that is so common in them.  They, along with the other plastic or rubberized plastic trim, shines beautifully!  The accordion ends on the bumpers are in great shape, the bumperettes are shiny, soft and in great shape!  No dents, cracks or issues

-GLASS

Not to let a pebble defeat this car, the windshield is great shape, with no chips or sandblasting.  It is beautifully clear glass that makes a world of difference.  It makes the car feel brand new!  The door and rear glass is wonderful shape!  Clear and clean!

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS

The Champagne leather seats are very nice.  The leather and foam are soft and comfortable.  I truly love driving this car.  You sit in perfect steering wheel/pedal distance in these buttery soft seats!  The leather has been very well cared for and shows only a couple minor flaws at worst.  All power seat functions work perfectly!  The underside of the seats are even clean!  The springs look like they just got a brand new coat of black paint.  The sliders are smooth and work great.  The leather has been recently cleaned and conditioned as well!  Wow, I’m missing sitting there while riding the ad even!  It is a great place to spend time.  The most notable flaw is actually quite hard to see unless you open the door and crane your neck around.  There are a couple small wear through marks on the inside of the left drivers seat bolster.  Very hard to notice from the outside or inside for that matter and a very typical wear spot on these cars. The seats were recently cleaned and looks great.  They have the expected light crease lines and light leather patina.  No cracking or tears.  Some light foam wear on the drivers seat bottom cushion that feels to my butt measurement a few mm’s off a new one.  Nothing major.  Rear seats look unused and brand new!

-STEERING WHEEL and SHIFT KNOB

OEM steering wheel and knob have been replaced by a Momo Corsa wheel and I believe a Momo knob.  Both are in very nice shape.  I am not usually a fan of aftermarket wheels, but this wheel does feel quite nice in your hands.  If you choose though, the original steering wheel and shift knob are retained and can be reinstalled before delivery and will be included in the auction regardless.  New steering wheel bushing.

-HEADLINER

The black headliner is in fantastic shape and offsets the Champagne leather and carpet wonderfully. The sunroof headliner is in great shape too!  The sunvisors have zero wear, the leather is near perfect, they don’t sag and the mirrors are clear as new.

-CARPET

Beautiful carpet in the car!  It has been shampooed and cleaned as part of the overall detail.  It has only light signs of wear.  There are a set of Champagne color floor mats over top of the carpet which show only light wear as well.

-POWER SEATS

All power seat functions work perfect!

-POWER WINDOWS

Both windows work smoothly and quickly.

-SUNROOF

Sunroof works perfectly!  Recently serviced with BRAND NEW drive cables and drive connector.  The roof slides back and forth very quickly and seals perfectly, no leaks or air coming in!

-RADIO

Radio was replaced with a very nice sounding Pioneer headunit and upgraded speakers and sounds great.  Not a crazy stereo install, just a nice stock upgrade (should you get bored with

-AC/HEAT

AC powers up and blows nice and cool, and was recently charged. Blowers work great, heater fans work great!  No worries with rusty heater channels with a CA car! Newer heat exchanger boots.

-CARGO AREA

The cargo area is in fantastic shape.  Check out the pics!  Clean battery – no corrosion. Clean brake master area – no spills!  Clean gas tank – no rust or seeping!  Clean fuse panel – no corrosion!  Clean body and paint!!  Totally ideal!!!

The Experience

Driving this 911 is a dream. It is tight, very comfortable, very quick, nimble and smooth.  THIS is the Porsche to understand what makes Porsche’s so great.  There are few cars from the 80’s that can feel pure and modern – this 911 is it! It has all the power it had from the factory an then some, and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this car is an amazing pre-owned and beautiful Porsche.  There are other 911, but clean, rust free, well cared for examples like this, especially in a very rare color, are getting harder and harder to find!. This really is a special car to drive and with the care mechanically and cosmetically it has received, it is a worry free Carrera, ready to be enjoyed just in time for fall!

Don’t spend a little less money to just have a car nickel and dime you back to more than the cost of this already incredibly well serviced car!  In the past 10k miles alone, this car has received over $12k in just preventative and practical maintenance and care!  Don’t go hunting for a super low mile 911 that hasn’t been cared for like this either!   This is a wonderful example of what makes these 911 so great.  Love them and they will go the distance and provide an ear to ear grin in the process!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all.  Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new car as soon as possible.
